A French walnut side chair stamped Jacob Freres with the royal cipher of Napoleon dating
circa 1805 and made for the Tuileries, the residence of Napoleon and Josephine. (There is
information on the rails with the inventory number for the Tuileries.) While not made for the
“show” rooms of the Tuileries, the history of the chair is not in dispute. The right front leg is a
later replacement made of beechwood and stained to look like walnut.
Seat ht. 17.75”.
