Carved and gilded trumeau mirror c. 1740

Regular price $85,000.00 USD
Regular price Sale price $85,000.00 USD

Trumeau mirror/looking glass overmantel carved in a restrained rococo manner, the bottom edge of which is identical to a trumeau from Clyne Castle in South Wales shown by Biggs of Maidenhead at the Grosvenor House Fair in 1962. That trumeau was sold in 1952 through Astley Samuel, Leeder and Son, where Biggs is thought to have purchased it. The owner of Clyne, Algernon Walker-Heage-Vivian is thought to have acquired the Biggs trumeau from his antecedent, John Henry Vivian, who would have brought it from Singleton Abbey in Swansea, Wales. The painting is after either Claude-Joseph Vernet or Charles-Francois Lacroix de Marseille. Circa 1740 Ht. 56", Width 58"
