George Bullock Style Sofa Table of Rosewood and Oak, circa 1830
A spectacular sofa table in the manner of George Bullock with intimations of designs by Thomas Hope having a rosewood veneered top banded in oak with brass inlaid florets at the corners with two drawers with unusual trestle supports with brass enrichments flanked by curvilinear palmette style scrolls with gilded veins resting on a rosewood shaped and veneered support having turned finials resting on blocks with inset rosettes standing on casters, the trestles connected by a turned stretcher. George Bullock is known to have employed oak veneers extensively in his work and the iconography of the brass inlay and enrichments embody Thomas Hope’s restrained neo-classicism. Circa 1820. Ht. 28 1/2”, w. 44 3/4” (flaps down) D. 25 5/8”
