Oval Rococo Mirror With Hoho Birds

A fine and impressive carved and gilded oval rococo looking glass crested with double c-scrolls holding an acanthus spray flanked by ho-ho birds over trailing vines with carved c-scrolls, the base terminating in c-scrolls flanking a seat lamb. English circa 1755. Ht. 52.5". W. 32.75" Dry stripped with traces of original gilding. 

The rococo design period for furniture (silver rococo designs were far earlier in England) roughly ran from 1740-60. These frames have a great pair of ho-ho birds, a rococo design staple, flanking the cresting. It is possible that this frame would have had additional carvings mounted on the wall that complemented the frame.
