Pair of Carved Rococo Mirrors
A good pair of carved rococo looking glasses crested with a leaf spray and flanked by carved s-scrolls and c-scrolls with icicles and other carved conceits and having period plate glass. Circa 1755. Ht. 41 1/2" Width 22 7/8" Ex. Coll. J.J. Wolff (Antiques) Ltd.Ht. 41" W. 22 5/8" Re-gilded.
The rococo design period on furniture (on silver it was much earlier) ran from roughly 1740-60. That does not mean that rococo frames weren't made after that date, the liveliness of the rococo elements were toned down a bit. This pair of mirrors could date as early as 1755 but also as late as 1770 as the gadroon molding around the frame was in constant use in that time period.
