Pair of Mahogany open armchairs with armorial in the crest rail
Pair of carved mahogany open armchairs with armorials in the crest with Gothick arches in the backs, upholstered seats and straight molded legs with stretchers. Circa 1755. These chairs are part of a larger set, some that have come up in auction, most recently at Christie's, NY on Oct. 20, 2011. They can also be traced to Julius Drewe, the builder of Castle Drogo in Devon. Randolph Antiques had an identical armchair at the Grosvenor House Fair, the year is unknown.
