Rare Lignum Vitae Spice Grinder circa 1680

A very rare lignum vitae spice grinder that separates into three sections--the finial coming unscrewing, the top vasiform section also unscrewing and the platform that supports the vase also unscrewing. The spice, or coffee, would be loaded into where the vasiform section and the handle would then be used to grind it. Once finished, the platform would be taken off for the ground spices. Original mechanism, extraordinary color and an amazing object. English or Dutch circa 1680. Ht.8 3/4", Dia. 4"
