TWO HINGED COCO DE MER MOUNTED ON STANDS

Two hinged coco de mer mounted on stands, most likely dating to the first half of the 19th century. The coco de mer palm tree is native to two islands in the Seychelles, Curieuse and Praslin, and is now a protected species. They are the largest seed in the plant world and their suggestive shape has encouraged myth on myth as it is still unclear how the male palm germinates the female.
